If you missed Outdoor Yoga with Linda, here’s another chance to partake in slow flow yoga on the shady lawn of McKee Farms Park. This series harmonizes Vinyasa with the more meditative Yin yoga and a relaxed introspective savasana. It’s an all-levels practice, with Linda offering modifications for most poses. We will link our breath with our movement to flow from one pose to the next, using standing and sitting asana. Please bring a mat, hand towel, and (if you have one) a yoga block. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. each Tuesday of August (excluding the 8th) for four classes. While the sessions are free, the Fitchburg Senior Center encourages a small $2-$5 donation. Linda earned her yoga, yin yoga and meditation certifications from Yoga Alliance.

Registration available through the FSC programs.

Selected comments from the June series:

  • “Thank you for the classes and inspirational readings, Linda. I left your classes with a relaxed body, a peaceful smile, and a new idea fermenting my mind.”
  • “Yoga with meditation sounds lovely and is worth a try if offered.”
  • “Really enjoyed your yoga classes. I am interested in taking any classes that you teach! Have learned that having the right teacher gets you to go to the classes!”

hot or iced coffee, a snack or not, or even a late breakfast.   Let me know if you have any questions.

Let’s try the Ice Age Trail walk again and hope the air quality remains good this time. The terrain is a mix of a path in the woods, a bike trail and a couple of gradual inclines. The trail is located right off PD (McKee Road) near High Point Rd. Length of the walk is about 2-2 1/2 miles. We will meet in the lower parking lot at the Senior center.
DATE:  Friday, July 7
TIME: 9:00 am
LOCATION: Ice Age Trail off McKee road
MEET: We will meet in the lower parking lot at the Senior Center and carpool to the location.

Walking May 31

Earlier today, the lupines were nearly at peak on this walk so I hope you can join us.  It’s another ‘might be buggy later’ walk
especially with rain forecast at the end of the week. So, time to do it now!  The day is expected to heat up so we’ll start at 9:00 AM
The total walk is about 3 to 3 1/2 miles with lots of flowers along the way.  About half of the walk is on a paved bike trail
and the middle half is on dirt trails in the south end of the arboretum.  There aren’t many tree roots or rocks but there are some
hills.  All the more reason to enjoy this while the flowers are blooming – wild geraniums and lupines mostly.
DATE:  Wednesday, May 31st
PLACE:  meet behind Tuscany and Wyndham Garden near the B-cycle area (at the top of the hill – McKee & Fish Hatchery)
Let me know if you need more specific directions.  phone 608-274-2768   email ksosnouski@att.net
TIME:   9:00 AM
Please let me know if you will be joining the group on this walk.  It’s important to know who’s coming so we don’t leave
anyone behind.
Enjoy the weekend.

Walking, May 17

The weather is predicted to be nice on Wednesday, May 17 so time for another walk.
I have a favorite walk in the Arboretum which is about 2-2 1/2 miles. This is not a paved trail but a dirt trail that goes through the woods. The terrain is flat except for a slight incline on one part of the trail.  On another portion of the trail there are tree roots to watch out for and some rocks. If desired, it might be helpful to bring a walking stick or trekking pole.
The trees are green and there are no mosquitos (yet) which is why I would like to do this walk now. An added bonus is that the lilacs are blooming and are beautiful. Hope you can come!
DATE: Wednesday, May 17
PLACE: UW Arboretum, Visitor Center Parking lot, 1207 Seminole Highway (meet in parking lot)
TIME: 9:30 am
Please let me know if you will be joining the group on this walk. This is your group so if you have any locations you would like to walk, please let me know. Thanks and see you soon!
Happy Mothers Day!

Free Summer Outdoor Yoga Series

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, outdoor yoga is a fantastic way to enjoy nature while focusing on your inner and outer self. And the challenge of practicing on uneven surfaces helps improve your balance and stability. Let’s get moving!

The patio construction rules out the possibility of outdoor yoga at the Center this summer. We changed the location to McKee Farms Park, on the lawn near the Kids’ Crossing playground.

The six-week series runs 9:00-10:00 each Tuesday from May 23 through June 27. (The first class will be from 9:00-10:15 to allow time for explaining poses.)

All are welcome for this free series. Bring your own mat. If the day is chilly, include a sweatshirt of throw for savasana.

Free Summer Outdoor Yoga

  • Where: McKee Farms Park
  • When: Tuesdays, May 23-June 27
  • Time: 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Linda Gorchels, your guide, holds RYS 200 yoga and yin yoga certifications from Yoga Alliance. She taught two outdoor yoga series for the Fitchburg Community/Senior Center last summer.
