Women’s Walking Group -October 27

Message from Elizabeth Barnum

Time to schedule a Fall walk to enjoy the beauty of nature. I was in the arboretum today and it was just beautiful! I am hoping the leaves don’t fall before our walk. Fingers crossed!

Date: Friday, October 27
Time: 9:30 Meet at the Senior Center upper parking lot off Lacy Rd and we will carpool
Place: UW Arboretum, Visitor Center parking lot, 1207 Seminole Hwy
The walk is about 2-2 1/2 miles on an unpaved trail through the woods. A walking stick or trekking poles may be helpful if you wish, but not necessary. The trail is fairly flat and being a woods, there are some tree roots and rocks to watch out for. It is an easy trail.

Please let me know if you will be joining the group so we don’t leave anyone behind.

Harvard Health Letter on “Walking with Friends”

Kathy Sosnouski sent me the following email. The article she links is worth a read.

Hi, Linda
This came to me from a Harvard health newsletter awhile ago. It might be something that you could include in a future email, especially as we move away from the warmer weather that’s kept some people from joining the group walks.

Urban Java Walk July 25

Hi, everyone
This is especially for those of you that might like a shorter urban walk.  We’ll start earlier and leave from the senior
center.  This walk usually takes me about 50 minutes and we’ll end near our start at Oasis Cafe.  There we can have
hot or iced coffee, a snack or not, or even a late breakfast.   Let me know if you have any questions.

Let’s try the Ice Age Trail walk again and hope the air quality remains good this time. The terrain is a mix of a path in the woods, a bike trail and a couple of gradual inclines. The trail is located right off PD (McKee Road) near High Point Rd. Length of the walk is about 2-2 1/2 miles. We will meet in the lower parking lot at the Senior center.
DATE:  Friday, July 7
TIME: 9:00 am
LOCATION: Ice Age Trail off McKee road
MEET: We will meet in the lower parking lot at the Senior Center and carpool to the location.
Please let me know if you can make the walk so we don’t leave anyone behind.
Thank you and hope to see you on Friday.

Walking May 31

Earlier today, the lupines were nearly at peak on this walk so I hope you can join us.  It’s another ‘might be buggy later’ walk
especially with rain forecast at the end of the week. So, time to do it now!  The day is expected to heat up so we’ll start at 9:00 AM
The total walk is about 3 to 3 1/2 miles with lots of flowers along the way.  About half of the walk is on a paved bike trail
and the middle half is on dirt trails in the south end of the arboretum.  There aren’t many tree roots or rocks but there are some
hills.  All the more reason to enjoy this while the flowers are blooming – wild geraniums and lupines mostly.
DATE:  Wednesday, May 31st
PLACE:  meet behind Tuscany and Wyndham Garden near the B-cycle area (at the top of the hill – McKee & Fish Hatchery)
Let me know if you need more specific directions.  phone 608-274-2768   email ksosnouski@att.net
TIME:   9:00 AM
Please let me know if you will be joining the group on this walk.  It’s important to know who’s coming so we don’t leave
anyone behind.
Enjoy the weekend.

Walking, May 17

The weather is predicted to be nice on Wednesday, May 17 so time for another walk.
I have a favorite walk in the Arboretum which is about 2-2 1/2 miles. This is not a paved trail but a dirt trail that goes through the woods. The terrain is flat except for a slight incline on one part of the trail.  On another portion of the trail there are tree roots to watch out for and some rocks. If desired, it might be helpful to bring a walking stick or trekking pole.
The trees are green and there are no mosquitos (yet) which is why I would like to do this walk now. An added bonus is that the lilacs are blooming and are beautiful. Hope you can come!
DATE: Wednesday, May 17
PLACE: UW Arboretum, Visitor Center Parking lot, 1207 Seminole Highway (meet in parking lot)
TIME: 9:30 am
Please let me know if you will be joining the group on this walk. This is your group so if you have any locations you would like to walk, please let me know. Thanks and see you soon!
Happy Mothers Day!
